Transport of Animals

Your dog also needs a "flight ticket". Each airline’s fees for travelling with your dog are different, depending on the size and weight of the dog and the distance of the flight. Pets that weigh up to five kilograms are allowed in the airplane cabin and travel in boxes that are subject to certain standards. These standards are important because the box must be stowed under the seat of the person in front of you. Rule of thumb: The kennel must not be larger than 48x40x20 cm and not weigh more than five kilograms, should have sufficient air vents and be equipped with water for your four-legged friend. Large dogs that weigh more than five kilos can travel in a box: They are separated from the owner and placed in their own kennel in the luggage compartment. The kennel must be within compliance of the so-called IATA regulations, which means that they must be waterproof, air-permeable in all directions and stable. The dog should be able to stand comfortably, turn around and lie down. Please always pay attention to adequate air supply through air holes - quality is important.

Most airlines only allow a limited number of animals on each flight, therefore you should book as early as possible and inform the airline about the fact that you are bringing a dog. Not every airline allows pets on board and they all have different restrictions. Budget airlines such as Ryanair for example, generally do not allow bringing pets. British Airways and several other airlines for example do not allow any breeds that are considered “fighting dogs”. It is imperative you ask us prior to making a reservation so that we can help you and recommend the appropriate airline.

Entry into the US

Please note that during the summer months between May 15 and September 15, a pet embargo (The airline “Summer Heat embargo”) applies. In the interest of the animal restrictions generally apply in extreme temperatures. This doesn’t apply to pets that travel in the aircraft cabin. Please allow yourself enough time to inquire if these restrictions are applicable to your airline or destination, or whether exceptions are possible. We strongly recommend that you check with your airline about the exact transport conditions for animals.
